Y/n Cat, the daughter of the Cheshire Cat, walked silently along the streets of the Isle of the Lost, her movements as sly as a cat’s. Unlike her brother, who is highly praised by their father as the one to carry on his legacy, Y/n had been left to fend for herself. Her presence on the streets was a result of his disappointment and disregard, and she had grown accustomed to the harshness of her lonely existence.
Rumors have been circulating around the isle that Uma, the formidable pirate queen, was looking to recruit new members for her crew. The thought both excited and terrified Y/n. She had always admired Uma's strength and the power of her crew, especially a certain pirate with a hook. Harry Hook, with his striking blue eyes and his natural confidence, had captivated Y/n from afar. She harbored a secret crush on him, though she kept to the shadows, too shy and insecure to make herself known.
Determined to discover more, Y/n made her way to the docks, where Uma’s incomparable ship cast a long shadow. Climbing a stack of crates to gain a better view of the deck, she leaned in, straining to catch the conversation between Uma and her crew. But as she shifted for a clearer view, the crate beneath her shifted as well. Y/n lost her balance and tumbled to the ground, pain shooting through her ankle like a searing brand.
Instinctively, she became invisible, hoping to avoid drawing attention to herself. Yet, despite her attempt to remain hidden, Harry’s sharp ears had picked up the sound. His eyes, keen and alert, scanned the dock as he stepped into view, his gaze intense yet curious.
"Lass?" Harry’s voice, smooth and velvety, cut through the air, carrying a hint of playful charm mixed with genuine concern. "I know yer around here somewhere. Come on out, don’t be shy."
Y/n’s heart raced, her fear mingling with the throbbing pain in her ankle, creating a tight knot of anxiety. Though she longed to reveal herself, her sense of vulnerability kept her hidden.
"Lass, I know yer hurt," Harry continued, his tone softening with a tender lilt. "Don’t be shy now. I’m not here to cause ya any more trouble. Just want to help."
The genuine warmth in his voice seeped through her fear, clearing up her mind. Slowly, she let herself become visible again, sitting on the dock with her injured ankle cradled in her hands. Her cheeks flushed a deep shade of crimson as she avoided Harry's piercing gaze.
"There ya are," Harry said softly, his voice like a caress against the cool air. He knelt beside her with a lazy, teasing smirk, his eyes filled with both amusement and concern. His gaze was unwavering, a mixture of playful challenge and genuine tenderness. "What’s this, then? Hiding from me? I’d have thought you’d have a bit more courage."
Y/n looked away, her voice trembling as she spoke. "I didn’t want to be a burden."
Harry’s expression softened, the teasing smirk melting into a look of sincere sympathy. He gently brushed his fingertips over her injured ankle, his touch light and tender as if afraid to hurt her further. His eyes never left hers, their deep, ocean depths filled with a soothing warmth. "Yer never a burden, Y/n. Quite the opposite, really. It’s a shame yer hide so well I would have liked to see ya more around here."
Y/n's gaze met his, caught in the magnetic pull of his eyes. Harry’s touch, both firm and gentle, sent a shiver of unexpected comfort through her. His hand lingered on her leg, a steady presence that offered reassurance and comfort. "Let me help ya out," he said, his voice a low rumble of warmth and sincerity.
With surprising tenderness, Harry lifted Y/n into his arms, careful to avoid hurting her injured ankle. She instinctively clung to him, her heart racing from both the pain and the unexpected intimacy. Harry carried her gently onto Uma’s ship, his movements steady and cautious, while Uma watched with a blend of curiosity and irritation.
"Harry, what’s this?" Uma snapped, her eyes narrowing as she took in Y/n’s presence. "You’re making a scene."
Harry flashed Uma a playful grin, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Just helping out a lady in distress. Can’t have her wandering around in pain now, can we?"
Uma’s scowl softened slightly as she assessed Y/n, her gaze shifting from irritation to hesitant acceptance. "Well, come on then. Let’s get you fixed up. And don’t worry about Harry’s antics. He’s harmless, mostly."
Gil, ever the ray of sunshine, appeared with a warm smile. "Hey there! I’m Gil. Don’t be shy. You’re among friends here."
Harry walked further into the ship, setting Y/n down on a makeshift bed in a small cabin below deck, his touch careful and considerate. He examined her ankle with a frown, his fingers light as he assessed the injury. "Looks like a bad sprain. We’ll need some ice."
"Thank you, Harry," Y/n whispered, her voice trembling with a mix of gratitude and vulnerability.
Harry’s gaze softened, filled with a warmth that contrasted sharply with his usual flirtatious demeanor. "Don’t mention it. But I do have one request."
Y/n’s curiosity sparked through her discomfort. "What’s that?"
"Promise me you won’t be afraid to ask for help," Harry said gently, his voice a soothing balm. "Especially from me."
Y/n’s heart swelled with a mix of gratitude and nervousness. "I promise."
Harry’s smile was tender as he brushed a strand of hair from her face, his fingers lingering for a moment longer than necessary. "Good. Now, let’s get this sorted out."
As Harry worked to tend to her injury, his touch was unexpectedly tender, every move made with a care that contradicted his roguish exterior. The flirtatious edge in his manner was tempered by a sincere concern that Y/n couldn’t ignore.
"You know," Harry began, breaking the comfortable silence, "Uma’s been talking about recruiting ya for our crew."
Y/n’s eyes widened with surprise, not realizing she was the very one the rumours were about. "Really?"
"Aye," Harry replied with a smirk that was both charming and genuine. "Says you’ve got skills we could use. And I’d say she’s right."
Y/n’s cheeks flushed with a mix of pride and anxiety. "I’d really like that."
"Good," Harry said, his tone softening even further. "We could use someone like you. And if you don’t mind me saying so, I’d quite like to have you around more."
Y/n hesitated for a moment, her heart pounding in her chest. "You know," she began softly, her voice barely above a whisper, "even if I disappear so often, I really like being around you too."
Harry’s expression softened, a warm, genuine smile spreading across his face. "I like having you around, lass. Disappear all ya want, I'll always find ya."
Y/n’s heart fluttered at his words, her apprehension melting away. "I’d like that too."
Harry’s smile broadened, and he pulled her closer, his arms wrapping around her waist with a gentle possessiveness. He trailed soft kisses along her ear and down her neck, marking her with a possessive tenderness that left no doubt about his feelings. Y/n’s shyness flared once more, and she instinctively disappeared again, her body becoming invisible in a reflexive response.
Harry’s voice, soft and coaxing, cut through her anxiety. "Come on out, kitten. Yer safe with me."
He wrapped his strong arms around her waist, his touch both firm and gentle, and began to tenderly caress her sides. "I promise, no one’s going to hurt ya. Just be with me, and let me take care of ya."
Gradually, Y/n allowed herself to reappear, her heart fluttering with both excitement and nerves.
Harry’s eyes bore into Y/n’s, their depth and warmth creating an electric tension in the air. “Yer special, Y/n. Don’t ever doubt that.”
Before Y/n could utter a word, Harry’s lips crashed against hers with a fire that left no room for hesitation. The kiss was all-consuming, a passionate storm of longing and need that swept them both away. Y/n melted into the intensity of his touch, surrendering completely as Harry’s hands roamed her back, pulling her closer with an urgent desire.
The kiss deepened, each movement between them a testament to the depth of their connection. Harry’s lips claimed hers with an urgency that spoke of all the unspoken promises, and Y/n responded with equal passion, her body pressed against his as if they were two halves of a whole.
When they finally broke apart, gasping for air, Harry’s gaze remained locked onto hers, filled with a raw, unwavering devotion. His hand lingered on her cheek, his touch tender yet insistent. “Yer going to be just fine, Lass. And I’ll be here for you, every step of the way.”
Y/n, breathless and overwhelmed, let a smile break through, her insecurities dissolving under the weight of his fervent assurance. "Thank you, Harry," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Harry's expression turned serious as he looked at her. “Listen, Y/n, I insist ya stay with me. I don’t want ya out there on the streets. Not when yer can be with me.”
Y/n's eyes widened at the declaration, a mix of surprise and doubt flickering across her face. "Do you treat all girls like this?" she asked, her voice tinged with skepticism.
Harry’s gaze softened, his lips curling into a gentle, knowing smile. “I don’t treat all women like this, just my woman. And I’m not about to let ya wander around hurting and alone. If yer with me, you’re safe, and I’ll make sure of it.”
Y/n’s heart swelled at his words, the weight of her doubts lifting. She nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’d like that. I’d really like that.”
Harry’s smile widened, his eyes sparkling with a mixture of affection and promise. “Then it’s settled. Yer with me now, and I’ll take care of ya. No more hiding, no more fending for yerself. Just trust me, and we’ll figure this out together.”
Y/n’s smile grew, her heart filled with a new sense of belonging. Just as they were basking in the warmth of their newfound love, the door swung open, and Uma walked in with a knowing smile, followed by Gil, who looked as confused as ever.
Uma's eyes sparkled with approval as she took in the scene. "Looks like my first mate has found himself quite the partner." she remarked, her tone light but genuine. "Y/n, you’ll make a great right hand for Harry. I’ve seen what you can do, and I’m glad you’re joining us."
Gil nodded enthusiastically, though it was clear he didn't fully grasp the situation. "Yeah, what she said! Welcome to the crew, Y/n!"
Y/n’s cheeks flushed, a mixture of pride and happiness swelling within her. She glanced up at Harry, who gave her a reassuring squeeze, his eyes filled with pride.
"Thank you, Uma," Y/n said, her voice steady and filled with determination. "I won’t let you down."
Uma smiled, her gaze shifting between Y/n and Harry. "I know you won’t. Now, rest. We’ve got big plans ahead of us, and with you on board, I’m confident we’ll succeed."

A thousand years ago there were a thousand petty kings in Westeros, and Alicent Hightower was to marry one of them. A convenient alliance with House Farman to bolster the strength of King Hobert’s fleets and secure Prince Otto’s position as his brother’s most trusted advisor, a man capable of strengthening the western coast against the ironmen. But the wedding to Prince Marq Farman never came, instead Alicent finds herself forever bound to one of the Iron Islanders she was supposed to ward against. The beacon of the Hightower, shining from the highest lighthouse tower of the Lonely Light. Other Writing | Pinterest | Next Let me know if you'd like to be added or removed from the taglist
I am Drowning, There is No Sign of Land
There were too many people at the table and it wasn’t even half of House Hightower. Cousins and her Aunt Selyse with her ladies and the handful of Hightower men-at-arms who had accompanied them on the ship to Fair Isle. The rest of the wedding party would arrive on the morrow. Alicent made a face, nose scrunching in disgust as she pushed her saltfish around on the plate. The thought of marriage made her sick to her stomach, it always had. She’d done all she could to put it off; pushing every boy or man trotted out as an option towards her ladies, carefully distancing herself and trying to seem as uninteresting or cold as possible to make him turn her away when she had to spend time with one of them, preying upon her father’s grief to say “mother would not have approved of him” when she dared towards cruelty. But Alicent was five and twenty now, and according to both her father and her Uncle Hobert it could not be put off anymore. Who would question a king when he said his niece should marry, when he happily sent her off to King Berric Farman’s heir as his younger brother whispered promises of a strong navy to protect the whole western coast from Ironmen into his ear.

The budding flower of Hearts
Teaser/Pilot?
Descendants x male Oc (you can read it as a self-insert if you want)
Masterlist
Next Chapter
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An: This will be a teaser to a fanfic I'm planning to start. It’ll be a descendants fanfic with a male oc who is the child of the queen of hearts (yes i saw descendants 4, i think i won’t like it nor use it. I’ll centre more on descendants 1, 2, & 3). This won’t be beta read, I'll be the one who’ll mostly check for mistakes but if you do see some, maybe comment and I'll try my best to edit! Hope you like it!
Ps. THIS IS LIKE MY FIRST TIME AND ALSO JUST PILOT SO NOT CHAPTER 1 YET.
1.5k words. No Trigger warnings that I know off.
Tumblr media
“And who might you be dear?” The lady in a metallic blue dress asked; She was Fairy Godmother. The school’s mere environment with all its beautiful architecture, clear blue skies, greenery which was a far cry from the deserted land me and the others came from; just a few minutes ago.
“Eli” I muttered, lost in the new environment. Taking in the beautiful clear sky that looked so polluted and clouded back then, It was this beautiful blue now.
I was pulled back to focus when I felt a bump by Carlos, I was asked again. “Eli?”
“Ah! Sorry, my name; it's Eli des Lamproca Van Der Heart.” I tried to push through with how long my name was. “Please just call me Eli!” with a greeting of a low nod and a smile. My heart painted lips curving. They were staring at our alien appearance compared to them.
“Eli, a lovely name.” The Fairy gleefully said with her high pitched voice, doing her best to greet the weird kids who just showed up. “Welcome to Auradon prep! I'm Fairy Godmother, headmistress.”
Mal then quickened “The fairy godmother? As in, "Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo"?”. “Bibbidi-bobbidi. You know it.” The Fairy replied with a smile.
Everything else was forgettable, for I was annoyed that Jay was eying a random girl next to the Fairy. He was skittish and all that nonsense while loudly chewing the gum he had in the limo. I sighed as I continued looking around and noticed Carlos was still trying to fix his clothes with chocolate still in his lips.
I was then brought back to the conversation when the man spoke. “It's so good to finally meet you all! I'm Ben.” I then slanted my head wondering who this ‘Ben’ was. I saw his gaze go to mine.
“Prince! Benjamin. Soon to be king.” The girl next to him followed up quickly, so he was the reason we’re here.
“You had me at prince. My mom's a queen, which makes me a princess.” Evie walked forward towards him, spinning around a bit and showing him her hand.
The girl then shook her head “The evil queen has no royal status here” Then i saw it “And neither do you.” her smile widened. She had this look in her eyes, gleeful to say the next line putting Evie in her place.
I pulled Evie back a bit next to me. Ben then awkwardly laughed and introduced this girl “This is Aubrey….”
“Princess! Aubrey.” she said while pointing her finger. She was reminding him, she was also royalty. “His. girlfriend.” she was wearing this fake smile. While Ben continued to look at her awkwardly. He isn’t fond of her. It seems so. “Right benny-boo~?” Ben was feeling uncomfortable while she wrapped her hand towards his.
Mal and I smiled back at them. I truly didn’t care for the next gibber gabber of the Fairy with all that talk about some library in the end.
Ben was behind her and I noticed Aubrey trying to take his hand once but he harshly took it back not wanting to be all touchy in front of us it seems. After the fairy walked away, He stepped forward and offered his hand towards Jay to shake.
 “It is so, so, so good to finally me-meet you all.” Jay, that idiot. He pushed him away. But smiled back at him, He didn’t want to shake his hand while he shook his head. He continued to Mal and shook her hand then stared a bit…
“This is a momentous occasion,” he continued while Mal then shakes her hand like it had been infected “and one that I hope will go down in history. Is that chocolate?” What a mess; Carlos with his already messy face had chocolate covered hands; But then the prince licked his finger clean, and gave me a look. Weird. “As the day our two peoples began to heal.” He shook Evie’s Hand while Aubrey behind him eyed her as she stared at him.
He finally reached me, “What was that pause earlier with Mal?” I asked him while we shook hands and he stared at me and smiled brightly “Ah. nothing! It wa-was nothing. Eli right? Beautiful name”. Weird.
Aubrey was getting a bit annoyed at him staring at us, but now more so at me. “Hey! You're the mad queen’s son right?” she directed towards me while I nodded with a fake smile; with Ben still staring at me but still wasn’t letting go of my hand. What exactly is going through his mind? “Yeah, you know what? I totally don’t believe the rumours, you’re not that insane!”
What a bitch.
Ben then was back to reality when he saw my smile fade a bit and realizing the situation while finally letting go of my hand. I just said nothing since if I did I might have slapped her. He was now looking towards Aubrey and seemed to be thinking of something.
“And you! You’re Maleficent's daughter, aren't you?” She then directed at Mal and stepped a bit closer to her. “Yeah, you know what? I totally do not blame you for your mother trying to kill my parents and stuff.” she rambled.
“Oh! my mom's Aurora. Sleeping~” She proclaimed, faking dumb; she stared at Mal insuating for her to continue. “Beauty!” Mal continued the atmosphere now being awkward.
“Yeah, I've heard the name. You know, and I totally do not blame your grandparents for inviting everyone in the whole world but my mother to their stupid christening.” They smiled back at each other. “Water under the bridge” Aubrey replied smiling. “Totes!” Mal wasn’t backing down.
What plastics honestly.
Ben grabbed Aubrey away from us and continued while defusing the situation “Okay! So, how about a tour?” We all were silent. So was I. I was just observing really. “Yeah?” He showed us forward and we walked behind him. Evie continued to walk beside me and linked our arms; while Mal was in front of us behind Ben and Aubrey. With Jay and Carlos messing around with each other behind us.
“Auradon prep, originally built over 300 years ago and converted into a high school by my father wh-”
The yapping of Ben faded as Evie gave me a look of concern. She began “Do yo- Do you think other royals will hate us?”. It was a genuine concern, both me and her were of true royal blood. “Do you think your father will hate you?” I asked her, she was a child of not only the 'Evil Queen' but also the King. She and Snow White were half-siblings.
“I haven’t really met him, I’ve never had…” She continues on. She asked me “Do you think your aunt will hate you?”. The White Queen, the sister of my mother. The one who sentenced her to the wastelands for unity with the other nations.
“Mother said she would have loved me. Though, we haven’t met either” I was going to continue but then we all came to a stop. Ben saw Carlos.
“Carlos.” He said. Carlos was behind Jay’s back, now terrified of the bronze? Statue that was earlier a man now a beast. Carlos must be afraid since it looked like a dog. “It's okay.” He was trying to reassure him to not be that fearful.
“My father wanted his statue to morph from beast to man to remind us that anything is possible.” His father. The king of this united land. I heard of his father’s tale with the beauty that is belle. “Do you resent the witch who cursed your father?” I remembered the beginning of the tale.
“Do you even know the witch? I never heard of them just of their curse towards him”
He laughed again before answering, but now it wasn’t a forced one like earlier with Aubrey. “For the first question, no. I don’t resent them. For the second. I think… even my father doesn’t know them?” He started to scratch his chin while thinking back. Aubrey asked back “Why ask Eli? Why so curious about curses?”
It was clear my curiosity was for him and the witch itself, not the curse. She was clearing trying to put words in my mouth. I laughed a bit at her question, I replied with a smile. “Why not? Scared of my madness?”
“So you guys have a lot of magic here in Auradon?” Mal asked changing the topic while we continued walking inside the school, clearly ignoring the conflict while also using it as a time to gain some information. “Like wands and things like that?”
Ben stole a glance at me before answering Mal’s question. At first it was Mal he was staring at, now me? “Yeah, it exists of course, but It's pretty much retired.” he smiled a bit. “Most of us here are just ordinary mortals.” He nodded with us now being inside the school and at the center of a grand hall with large staircases leading to places we haven’t seen yet.

ATTENTION PEOPLE: MISSING FANFIC SEARCH:
So this is going to be very incredibly confusing, but I’m searching for this fic I read a really long time ago. In light of the possibility ao3 gets banned, I’m going to save fics that I think deserve to be preserved like the literature they are. This includes fics that I read previously and really liked. However, I’m having trouble finding this Heartstopper fic I read ages ago back when I was still in the fandom and do not remember the title of. I fear it may have been deleted. But regardless, I will shout into the void and hope and pray someone knows the fic I’m taking about and can maybe send me the link. So here’s a plot recap:
It’s set during the Christmas season. Charlie is homeless. He breaks into nicks shed to steal power tools to pawn them for money but nick catches him, and feels bad. Slowly over time they become friends, and nick does what he can to help Charlie. The early chapters im blanking on but it gets interesting much later. Charlie stays with nick after a lot of convincing and they lie to nicks parents (who in this fic, are still together-nicks father is a cop.) and say he goes to truham. Christmas rolls around and nick (I think) fakes sick to stay home while his parents travel or see relatives or something, and Charlie spends a few days with nick alone in the house. Charlie also plays the violin for some reason, which nick happens to have and gifts to Charlie because he never uses it. Charlie grows insecure about “using” nick and eventually runs off, feeling as though he is a nuisance, and so he goes back to the street. His violin gets stolen by some street rats who beat him up, but nick goes out searching for him and throws the street rats off, leading to him and Charlie having to escape and hide in an abandoned apartment Charlie stays in some times. But when you think everything’s okay, the third act happens and Ben comes into play, who is a much older drug dealer who takes advantage of Charlie being in a bad position to have an abusive relationship with him. Charlie tries to go to Elle and Tao, who he met through Ben, and who try to hide him but ultimately he’s sniffed out and Ben takes him when his goons and him storm elle and Tao’s apartment. There’s some sort of fight in I think a motel and and nick gets him back. Imogen is also there, I don’t really remember when she is or what she does until the end, when we find out she went with Ben who is now technically a kidnapper, and nicks cop father has to swat Ben to take him out, and he goes to jail cause turns out he killed Charlie’s mom because she was (I think) verbally abusive to Charlie and it’s what leads to them being together.
Also, a couple random plot points I remember but don’t know where to place include:
-charlie constantly wears a thin denim jacket that later gets traded with one of nicks old puffer coats
-he runs into Tara and Darcy drawing graffiti under a bridge and joins them. If I remember correctly, Darcy was kicked out by her mom and Tara has a shit home life.
-Charlie goes with nicks mom to one of his rugby games and they talk I think
-nick and Charlie have a date where they go to some sort of Christmas fair and I think go ice skating
-Ben may or may not have been drugging and pimping out Charlie, and I think that’s like the main reason why he freaks out about Imogen is cause he’s worried it’ll happen to her?
-when Ben brings Charlie to the hotel, he shoot’s up heroin
The fic was posted during the holiday season, I do remember that. As for the year, I’m not sure, but I would say it’s likely to be either from December 2021 or 2022.
If ANYONE remembers anything about this fic, the name, the author, anything at all, please comment below. I remember it was an incredible story and I know I would feel incredible guilt if I couldn’t find it again while I’m on the hunt to preserve my favorite fics before the government might take them away from me.

Valicer Polyship Week 2024, Day One: Team As Polycule (Valicer In The Dark AU)
Hello everyone, and welcome to Valicer Polyship Week 2024! :D Where, just like in 2023, you will get a daily Valicer fic based on one of the prompts from the official Polyship Week 2024 prompt list, courtesy of, naturally, @polyshipweek! Today is Day One, and the prompt I chose was "Team As Polycule" -- mostly because it immediately made me think of my Valicer In The Dark trio, and how they are a criminal crew as well as a polycule. Though, interestingly, the story that I came up with doesn't have actually have them doing a score together or anything like that. Instead, I ended up writing something about Alice being told that romancing her fellow crewmates is a bad idea by the leader of another gang in the area, and taking semi-violent offense to said leader poking her nose into her business. :P Not sure why my mind went off in that direction -- but as you will see tomorrow, apparently I really wanted to write "someone is a jerk to one of the trio, only to get theirs in the end" this year...
--
“You know, it’s not a good idea to mix pleasure and work.”
Alice blinked, then looked over to see one Nessa, leader of the Gray Cloaks, standing by the door to the bathroom, arms folded across her chest and mouth thin with displeasure. “It’s not going to end well,” she continued. “Sooner or later, the tower of cards always collapses.”
“Right.” Alice shook her hands off above the cracked sink basin before reaching for the towel. “First of all, did you really follow me in here to say that? And second of all – what? What are you talking about?”
“Yes, I did, because I had to go anyway – and I didn’t want to say this with your two, ah, friends overhearing,” Nessa replied, jerking her head toward the door and, implicitly, at Victor and Smiler back at their table. “And you know what I’m talking about. You’re playing a dangerous game, getting – involved with your partners in crime.”
Alice’s eyes narrowed. “I don’t believe I asked your opinion on my love life,” she said coolly, drying her hands.
“You’re getting it anyway,” Nessa said, untroubled by her tone. “Because I think too much of you to let you make a stupid mistake. Look, you’re easily the most sensible one in your little gang–”
“Me? I’m the one who talks to things that don’t exist on the regular,” Alice cut in, raising an eyebrow. At her feet, Cheshire covered a chuckle with his paw. “Just underlining my point there, Cat.”
“Sure, fine, but look at the two people you hang around with,” Nessa insisted. “Your Whisper’s a slip of a thing from money, and spends his time sticking his nose too far into his books and fiddling around with things he doesn’t understand. And your Leech…” Nessa rolled her eyes. “Well. They’re an Advocate. We all know what that lot is like.” She pointed at Alice. “But you? You know that this world’s a stupid, cruel, cold place, full of people that are as likely to stab you in the back as they are to shake your hand and give you a smile. And you’re more than ready to do the stabbing if you have to. You’re the one who sees things as they are.”
“Except when I don’t,” Alice said, watching as a tentacle poked its way through a hole in the ceiling. “Though I suppose I should take a compliment when it is offered. But what exactly is your point here, Nessa? I know you have one, even if it’s just hidden in your cloak.”
“My point is that you should be smart enough to know that getting personally involved with your crew is only going to lead to trouble,” Nessa said, shaking her head. “You can’t trust them that far, no matter what they might whisper in your ear in the middle of the Names. It’s common knowledge that Roric and Lyssa were lovers before she tore his belly open and dumped him in Ratblood Canal so she could get the Crows all to herself. Less common that Mylera of the Red Sashes used to be a spy in the Lampblack ranks, and seduced a few secrets out of Baz himself before running back to her own to destroy him. And don’t get me started on what happened between the Billhooks’ Tarvul and his wife before she ended up in Bellweather Crematorium and he in Ironhook Prison…” She huffed. “Point is, this city is rife with idiots who took a chance on getting close to their fellow scoundrels, and paid the price. And I see the way you look at your crew, and – I know you’re gonna get hurt.” She sighed, letting her arms drop. “Van Dort grew up rich, Alice – the minute he thinks he’s got enough Coin to get back into proper society, he’s going to ditch you without a second thought. And Alton – I bet you you’re never more than one too many frowns away from being stuck with a syringe and dragged back to their headquarters to get your head ‘corrected.’ Maybe you three work well enough together now, but – you can’t trust ‘em to treat you right.”
“I see.” Alice hung the towel back on its little hook. “Is that your entire piece?”
“Yeah,” Nessa nodded. “Just had to get it out there.”
“Excellent.” Alice took a moment to brush her hair back from her face –
Then, before Nessa could move an inch, she slammed the woman up against the wall, putting her knife against her throat. “Here’s mine then – keep your fucking nose out of my fucking business,” she hissed. “You think Victor wants to go back to a life where the weight of his parents’ expectations made him miserable? You think Smiler doesn’t care enough about me to know that getting me high on Joy Serum is the worst way to make me happy? You honestly think I’m stupid for daring to fall in love with the first two people who ever actually treated me like I was a person and not just a broken simulacrum of one? You don’t know anything about us, then. And I’ll thank you to keep your opinions to yourself in future.”
Nessa stared at her, eyes wide and breathing hard – and, judging by the sudden smell, no longer with a need to go to the toilet. Alice released her and tucked her blade away again. “Good talk,” she said simply, then headed back out into the Ball & Socket.
As she’d expected, Victor and Smiler were still at their table, finishing off their food. “Was that Nessa that just followed you into the bathroom?” Smiler asked as she sat back down again. “Thought I recognized her braid.”
“It was,” Alice confirmed. “We just had a rather illuminating chat.”
“Oh?” Victor said, dabbing his mouth with his napkin. “What about?”
Alice responded by grabbing his tie and pulling him in for a kiss. “About how she’s an arsehole who thinks you two are idiots and I’m an idiot for being in love with you,” she said after releasing him. “And how, if she doesn’t believe a crew can trust each other enough to be together more – intimately than normal, that’s not my problem.”
“Uh – ah – oh,” Victor said, blinking as his brain tried to catch up. “I – I see. I think.”
“I definitely see – that was rude of her,” Smiler said, defying their name by frowning. “I mean, sure, probably what we have together isn’t conventional for a crew, but – I like what we’ve got.”
“Me too,” Victor agreed, before leaning over to give Smiler a quick kiss, apparently worried they’d feel left out otherwise. “I’m happier than I’ve ever been with you two.”
Alice smiled at them, taking both their hands in hers. “I feel the same. And trust me, Nessa knows that very well now.” She glanced over to where the Gray Cloaks were huddled, looking a bit nervous about how their leader hadn’t come out of the bathroom yet. “So – no offering our services to help them gather more evidence about how they were framed right now?”
“Hell no,” Smiler said succinctly. “Maybe the Lost could use our help instead – I heard that they’ve got a vendetta against the owner of the Cordelia Furniture factory now...”

Sharing a little teaser from the Twelfth Doctor/Missy fic that I've been working on, because I am rather proud of it and it doesn't give anything away.
"How long have we played out this dance? Obeying whatever law of gravity it is that governs us, never daring to get too close lest the pull gets too strong because we know that the only thing that can happen is that we'll crash and burn. And yet never quite able to get away. In constant orbit around one another, teetering on the edge of disaster. So why should you help me? You shouldn't. But you will. Because it's what you do. You're a sentimental old idiot."

Pink Folders -Chapter 1.-
I am finally posting the first chapter! This is not beta-read so there may be some mistakes. It is also just chapter one and is setting everything up. Chapter 2 has been started but I am unsure when that will be finished. I am also going to post the rest of the chapters (including this one ofc) on ao3 and it's unlikely I will put any more here. As soon as the fic is up over there I will add a link to it here as well as to the pinned post on my blog. Enjoy :)
TW: mentions of rape (let me know if there are any others)
Word count: 1,683
Summary
Marlene is frustrated. Her best friend's boyfriend is a manipulative, lying, piece of shit, and yet her best friend doesn’t seem to realise just how terrible he is. She needs proof. Proof that Snape is cruel, a liar, and a cheater. Fortunately, Alice knows someone who might be able to help.
Ch 1.
“He said what?!” The door slammed open. Rage was etched over Marlene’s face.
“It was nothing, honestly Marlene. He didn’t mean it, he apologised several times and then he bought me flowers to make up for it,” Lily busied herself in the kitchen, avoiding her friend’s piercing look. She dried off a pink mug and placed it back up on the shelf. “If I had known you were going to react like this I wouldn’t have texted you.”
“FLOWERS DON'T MAKE UP FOR CALLING YOU A USELESS FUCKING BITCH WHO’S NOT WORTH HIS TIME!”
There was a pause and Marlene could distinctly hear the sound of Lily’s grandfather clock ticking in the hallway. It was a gorgeous mahogany wood and it reminded Marlene of her great-aunt’s house. Currently, however, the ticking was reminding her of a bomb. One she’d very much like to shove down the throat of Lily’s previously mentioned shitty boyfriend.
“We were arguing, it was just an argument, he didn’t mean it, Marls.” Lily turned towards her, tears in her eyes, “he loves me, Marlene, how many times do I have to tell you that?”
The cracks in her voice fractured Marlene’s heart and she watched her friend lie to herself again and again. Lily’s hands bunched in her green tank top. Her red hair framed her freckled cheeks and Marlene could see her eyelashes glittering softly. She missed the days of clubbing and partying with Lily, Em, and Alice, when Lily smiled so much her eyes closed and laughed so hard her face hurt.
“Okay Lily, I’m sorry, I’m sorry I believe you it’s just—” She stopped, searching for the words. “Why do you let him speak to you like that? He keeps saying shit he doesn’t mean, and every single time you forgive him. I just don’t understand.”
Her friend looked back at the floor, placing another cup back on the shelf. “Because he loves Marlene. And if he doesn't, who else will? He’s the only long-term boyfriend I’ve had and most of the time he treats me like I’m perfect and everything he could ask for.”
“Lils you are perfect. And you deserve so much more than him. You deserve someone who will treat you right all of the time. Not some two-faced jerk bag who starts yelling at the smallest thing. What even was it this time?”
“Umm,” Lily shifted slightly. “I got invited to go out to dinner with a few of our college friends but he wouldn’t let me go. He thought that Matt or Rj wanted to make a move on me and he didn’t want me seeing them.”
“This is exactly what I’m talking about! He’s controlling, jealous, insecure, and manipulative. You’re an amazing, beautiful, kind person and anyone would be lucky to have you. Someone better than him will love you, I promise.” She crossed her arms, and the look in her eye told Lily that her opinion was not going to be changed any time soon.
“Okay I’ll think about it Marlene, but for now I need to finish cleaning this kitchen up and I’m sure you have other places to be so I’ll text you tomorrow K?”
Marlene did have other places to be so she reluctantly said her goodbyes and walked back to her car. This was beyond frustrating. She and Lily seemed to be having the same conversation over and over. Lily’s boyfriend Snape, was an asshole. Marlene hated the guy. He’d been obsessed with Lily throughout college and everyone had seen it - except Lily. They’d become close when her parents and sister had kicked her out and Lily needed a place to stay. Unfortunately, she’d run into Snape before Marlene could swoop into the rescue.
Snape worried Marlene a bit. He seemed shady and hung around dodgy people. She was convinced he was caught up in some weird crime group. Or maybe it was drug-related, she wasn’t quite sure.
When she’d tried explaining her suspicions to Lily she’d been shut down. “There’s nothing he does that remotely suggests that.” Lily had said. Followed by, “If you have proof I’m all ears because of course I wouldn’t date someone like that,” and an eye roll that implied she didn’t think Marlene was ever gonna find proof of something like that.
She was wrong. That’s exactly what Marlene had been planning to do. Only she wasn’t sure how to go about it. How did you gather information on someone when you weren’t quite sure what you were looking for and had no time to actively stalk someone? On that note, she was going to be late for work. Reason no.1 why she couldn’t stalk Snape.
~~~~~
Thirty minutes later, Marlene’s shiny purple car pulled into the staff car park outside Toffee and Coffee. Inside Alice was carrying a tray of drinks over to a table of six people. The cafe was reasonably busy this morning and Marlene could see Emmaline giving her the side eye at the counter. Whoops.
She slipped past various people as she made her way to the back of the cafe to dump her bag and coat. Muttering excuse me and various other apologies as she went, Marlene mouthed one more sorry at Emmaline before disappearing out the back.
It was a long morning. Marlene had consumed so much caffeine in the brief pauses between work that she could almost smell the obnoxious lime-green colour of the dairy across the street. Her coworkers forgave her fairly quickly for her late arrival. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to chat until closing in the evening as they took staggered breaks to keep managing customers. Marlene and Emmaline waved goodbye to Andrew - their other coworker- while Alice locked up.
“You're buying the first round this time, McKinnon, for leaving us to fend for ourselves at 5 am this morning,” Emmaline grumbled climbing into the back of her friend's car.
“Amen to that,” Alice chimed in, opening the passenger door. “I can not believe the number of people who arrive while we’re opening. Like who the fuck is waking up at 5:30 on a Saturday?”
“Okay, okay that’s fair,” Marlene surrendered. “I’m on the first round, but I stand by that it was for a good reason.”
The three of them arrived at the local bar within no time. The bartender knew their first round by heart as the girls had made a habit of coming every Saturday night after their longest shift. They had Sundays off so plenty of time to nurse inevitable hangovers.
Seated in a booth, secluded enough to hear each other talk, Alice raised an eyebrow at Marlene. “What do you mean ‘for a good reason’?”
“Yeah you never told us why you were late,” Emmaline added.
Marlene sipped her negroni, unsure what to say. “Lily sent me a text. And she mentioned she had another argument with Snape.”
She told her friends about Lily’s texts and turning up at her house that morning and what they’d argued about. Marlene’s thoughts were swirling and talking to Emmaline and Alice seemed to help center them.
“I’m guessing he’s also why she couldn’t come tonight?” Emmaline asked. Lily would often meet them at the bar after their shifts but that had become less and less frequent.
“Ugh, don’t even get me started.” Marlene ran her hands through her choppy blonde hair, tugging on it in frustration. “There’s got to be some way to show her who he really is! It breaks my heart to see her treated like this by him again and again. All it does is make me hate him and her family more for making her feel like she doesn’t deserve to be loved as much as she loves. I mean, I’m convinced he’s in some kind of shit. You guys have seen the people he hangs out with. Mulciber, Goyle, Lestrange. All of those guys are shady as hell.”
“Can’t disagree with that.” Emmaline sipped her drink. She twirled one of her many colourful bracelets around her finger. “You don’t like, know anyone who knows them or what they get up to? No one who could like, catch it on video so we can show Lily his true colours and all that jazz?”
“If I didn’t have work all the time I’d just stalk him myself, but—”
“Actually,” Alice interrupted. “I might know someone who could help.”
“Really!” Marlene perked up instantly. “I am open to all suggestions by this point.”
Alice hesitated slightly, fiddling with the stem of her glass. “Remember how a few years ago I had all the court stuff over the ordeal with Marcus? Well, I received help from an… organisation that specifies finding evidence for women and girls in abusive homes or relationships, or just generally toxic situations. For me, they helped prove that I was raped. They managed to find security footage of him and I together near the location as well as texts between him and some of his friends where he bragged about it.”
“Holy shit really?” Marlene exclaimed. “God I know how difficult proving those cases can be for the victims as often it’s your word against theirs. But that’s amazing, I’m so happy they were able to help you with that.”
“Were they the ladies with your lawyer when I came with you to those meetings?” Emmaline asked.
“Yeah that’s them,” Alice smiled sadly. “Lovely group of people and good at their job. I could contact them for you if you’d like?”
“That would be awesome, Alice, thanks.” Marlene squeezed her hand appreciatively and they all shared a smile.
Another round of drinks came and went and topics became lighter and more slurred. Finally, they decided that they had had enough and it was time to head home.
A thousand years ago there were a thousand petty kings in Westeros, and Alicent Hightower was to marry one of them. A convenient alliance with House Farman to bolster the strength of King Hobert’s fleets and secure Prince Otto’s position as his brother’s most trusted advisor, a man capable of strengthening the western coast against the ironmen. But the wedding to Prince Marq Farman never came, instead Alicent finds herself forever bound to one of the Iron Islanders she was supposed to ward against. The beacon of the Hightower, shining from the highest lighthouse tower of the Lonely Light.
Prolouge 1 : The withered rose of a Deracinated Heart; Mary.
The Beating Embers of Van Der Heart.
Masterlist
Next Chapter | Prev Chapter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Descendants x male Oc (you can read it as a self-insert if you want).
TW: Sexual assault. I allude to The Mad Queen being sexually assaulted making her pregnant to Eli; so warning! If you wish to skip, I’ll just color the paragraphs of her assault in red so just skip those.
Word Count: 1k - It's shorter than the teaser but has more plot and story.
Little a/n: This will mostly focus on the Mad Queen (the mother of Eli, the male oc of the story)
Tumblr media
Mary Elizabeth Heart. The once vibrant royal Red rose of Wonderland. Once a great ruler but somehow got a madness that cursed her to be a tyrant, sentencing countless of heads to be severed. Her half-sister Mirana Heart De Marmorea, was the daughter of the neglectful Red King and Marble-Like Concubine; was forced to over throne her. With a coup, Mary and her vessels who let her paint the streets blood red, were all imprisoned and stripped of their titles and power.
Now Mary was forgotten, no more was the Red Queen. She now was a withered rose, she was now the Mad Queen. Thrown to the land of the lost and forever remembered as a tyrant. Her and her still remaining loyal vessels left, however she birthed a baby. A child she got the day of her departure from Wonderland. Now a new blooming flower is thriving out of the withered rose that was once so beautiful.
Mary didn’t actually want him at first, nor did she expect to have him. But then she was seeded with a harsh hand on her when she was still chained to the wall and imprisoned in the dark dungeons of the Castle. In those dark hours of the night she was deflowered, her petals plucked rather harshly by a disrespectful knight; one that was supposed to only keep watch of her. She screamed and shouted but her sins towards others made them no longer care for her. Her past vessels can only listen to the nightmare all calling out for help with her in their individual cells but still, no one came.
She screamed so much that night that the day after she could no longer speak; while she was still a mess and tears stained her face, clothes ripped and hair messed with. It was never reported to the White Queen even when one of her vessels knew. She was more anxious and more ‘insane’ that morning after.
Surprisingly that day after Mary was harassed, the truce and peace of kingdoms was sent to wonderland. No matter how much Mirana the White Queen wished to hold onto her sister; to find a glimmer of hope that she will get better and everything will go back to before. To achieve peace, she had to send her to the land of the lost alongside everyone who they battled; no matter the history.
“For all nations to unite, we propose for you to send your villains to us. We shall make sure to contain them,  away from all their harm. For us to not be at each other’s throats anymore because of the sins committed by these villains.” written in a vibrant deep gold lettering. It was marked with the blue rose and golden accessories that symbolized the beast king and beautiful queen of Auradon.
For the people the greatest villain of their land was Mary, their Mad Queen. Mary Elizabeth Heart, The Red Queen was now just a faint nightmare to them. The White Queen’s vessels hold a ceremony the night of her departure, nor only as a celebration for their evil tyrant’s punishment; but also for their unity with the other nations.
As the Queen, Mirana held her stance of being a leader and was at the ceremony with a gorgeous gown and beautiful crown that wonderful night. However as the half and only sister of Mary, she held her one last time before her departure towards Auradon’s land of lost that dreadful morning. Saying farewell and tearing up a quiet storm, this however was done behind closed doors. She wasn’t supposed to show empathy or sympathy for the former tyrant no matter what, for if the people saw this; They would riot.
Mary even in the curse of the madness still understood not to lash out or hurt her sister once she held her. In some twisted way she was thankful for the banishing, after experiencing that night. She was thankful she was gone from there. She knows if she was to be there for a little longer; it’ll happen again.
However once she was at that land of the lost, together with the few vessels that decided to still be with her till the end. She found out she was pregnant, a life inside her. Given by the man who now was her nightmare day and night; that made her no longer wish to be near any man she didn’t know beforehand. She hated this, she didn’t want to have it nor can she remove it.
She gave birth to it, but for half a year did not ever want to look or touch it. Only when they were alone one night when the baby was crying, did she finally look at it. He had her eyes, her hair, her skin. It looked like her, mimicking almost everything she looked like but on a baby boy. It was crying, asking for anyone to comfort it. Then while she was just staring at it a few inches near it, something snapped.
Her madness that would cruelly curse her and fog her mind, stayed down. Her sanity came back and she realized it was crying for help just as she was that night. She could help it, she could ease his pain. So just as she wished for someone to have helped her back then, she cared for him. They both cried while she held him close, she didn’t want to let go of him now. He became a beacon for her sanity, she still would have it but she would learn how to live with it.
The child was now finally named by Mary to be Eli, a name mimicking her’s. Eli Van Der Heart, the one and only child of Mary Elizabeth Van Der Heart. Now being banished and dethroned she was now severed from the royal family of Hearts. Now just being Van Der Heart; meaning now they were only “from Heart”. The new baby now being the blooming flower that this withered rose would look after and nurture.
An: HELLO, I FINALLY FINISHED THE FIRST PART OF THE PROLOGUE. This introduced the birth of Eli and a glimpse into The Mad Queen (here Mary Elizabeth Heart) and The White Queen (here Mirana Heart De Marmorea).
I might get to work on the next part after a small break from this. Also I plan to have multiple chapters for the prologue, to flesh out Eli and his relationships with the other VKs and also to flesh them out. Since personally I didn't feel like they had much character in the beginning other than just being the children of Villains and going against that.
I HOPE YOU LIKE THIS! its the official start of the story! also if you wanna get tagged just tell me! i'll make a list <3
There was commotion in King’s Landing. Chaos. Terror.
You were not within the safety of the Red Keep as you normally were, as you should be.
There was so much screaming you couldn’t think straight.
Alicent grabbed your hand, her other hand in Helena's and pulled you both forward.
The crowd pushed and heaved and you yelled as your hand slipped from your mother in law’s.
Pure terror shot down your spine as the push of the crowd led you away from them, away from your family by marriage, away from the King’s Guards, away from safety.
You were lost in a sea of limbs and panic, your screams completely unheard over the cacophony of scared sounds.
You couldn’t even determine the source of the commotion, you didn’t see it, only the after effect as you were now pushed down the streets of the city.
Water dripped down your cheeks, and when you looked up, the sky was clear. You continued to run with the crowd, in order to avoid being knocked over and trampled.
You lifted a hand to your face, and realized you were crying.
Another hand grabbed yours, and you gasped in relief, as you were harshly pulled to the side and into an alley.
Your gasping breaths slowed as the crowd no longer threatened to crush you.
You clenched your jaw and steeled your resolve as you realized the person who pulled you to safety was a stranger with a predatory gleam in his eyes.
You lifted your chin and yanked your hand out of his.
“Thank you for the assistance, kind sir, but I must get going. My family is expecting me,” you said firmly.
A hateful chuckle came from the darkness behind you.
You whirled around and saw two malicious looking men, behind them in the darkness there were two young women sitting on the ground with their hands and legs bound and gags in their mouths. There was fear unlike any you’d ever known in their eyes.
That same fear now dripped down your spine, but you couldn’t give into it, instead you steeled your spine.
“How much do you think we can get for this one?” The shorter man sneered.
You thought of how your husband spoke to his enemies and tried to emulate that same haughty tone as you looked down your nose at them.
“I am a Targaryen. Return-“
”But you don’t got silver hair,” one of the men blurted out.
You wrinkled your nose, ever the royal, and said, “I am the wife of Prince Aemond Targaryen. Return me to the Red Keep safely and I will make it certain you are rewarded for your goodwill.”
The men’s smiles grew greedy.
“Imagine how much we can get in ransom,” the one behind you muttered.
“That would be an incredibly stupid course of action. The Prince is a viciously protective man and would surely kill any who attempt to kidnap me. He once broke a man’s arm for grabbing me in the halls of the Red Keep. Another time he broke a man’s nose for looking at me too long. It is in your best interest to leave me be,” you said sternly.
The shorter one had the sense to look scared, but the bigger one, the scarier one, looked only overconfident.
“The One Eyed Prince is not in King’s Landing, is he? I hear he is far away tending to the ongoing war within his house,” he said as he narrowed his eyes at you.
You gulped.
“He rides the largest dragon in the world, it would be a quick thing for him to be here to incinerate you all,” you said, your confident tone wavering slightly.
“He’s not here now,” the one behind you said, and before you could look back at him there was pain as something hit you in the side of the head and the world turned black as you fell.
You were floating on a sea of fire, the motion of the waves of flame rocking you back and forth, the gentleness bringing you a sense of peace and reassurance you had not felt since your husband mounted his dragon and flew off to war.
The sky cracked open and rain poured as lightning flashed. But the flames you swam in remained strong, boosted you up, and as a bolt of lightning flashed towards you in slow motion, you held your hand up and the waves of fire surrounded you, protecting you from danger.
As you resurfaced you pointed your finger at the thundercloud and the fire shot like an arrow and decimated it.
Someone shook your shoulder and as you woke, your body still rocked back and forth with waves, only furthering your disorientation as you found yourself  somewhere completely foreign.
“Aemond?” You mumbled as nausea threatened to overcome you.
“Princess,” a female voice said and you cracked your eyes open to find yourself in a fully wooden room with two women. They both laid on the floor in the tiny room, same as you.
“Where am I?” You asked bewildered. Your head pounded and as you reached your hand and touched the side of it, you felt a tender bruise and hissed in pain.
“Princess, don’t you remember? We were captured,” the other woman said.
It all came rushing back to you and you pressed your lips together to avoid vomiting.
“Y-yes, where are we?”
“Somewhere in the middle of the sea,” the younger woman said quietly, her tone distraught.
You were on a ship, shoved in a small room, surely in the hull, that had been transformed into a temporary dungeon you discovered as you stood, losing your balance for a moment, and attempted to open the locked door.
“We already tried that,” the one with the dark hair said.
You sighed. “Of course you did.”
“How long have we been in here?” You asked, panic filling your chest.
“My guess is a day and a half,” the younger woman said.
You sank to your knees and allowed the tears to fill your eyes as the despair hit.
You later learned that the names of the women you were trapped with were Marrion and Eliza. They were both as terrified as you, but managed to learn as much as they could about the men who held you, which they relayed to you in hushed tones for fear of the guard outside the door overhearing.
“Is it true that your husband will come to rescue you?” Eliza asked hopefully.
You pressed your lips together. “Yes, but who knows how long it will take him to learn of my capture, to find me?”
Both the women looked down in dismay.
You knew that Aemond would abandon his war, his family, his life for you. You knew he would fight, would bleed, would die for you. Such was his love and devotion to his wife, but his family knew that as well, and a small voice in the back of your head worried and warned you that perhaps his scheming grandsire would prevent word of your predicament to be sent to your husband.
You wondered if you prayed to Vhagar if she would hear it and lead your husband to you, she was practically a goddess of war in her own right. You didn’t believe in any of the other gods your husband and his family worshiped.
“We need to make our own plan in the meantime,” you said firmly and they nodded.
You lifted your skirt and pulled out the sapphire embedded dagger strapped to your thigh that your husband gifted you on your name day.
Your companions had watched the men’s patterns before you awoke, and you based your plan off that. Listening to your husband and offering him support taught you a decent amount about strategy, and hours of training with him had taught you self defense skills as well, and it was time to put both to use, this time with you having the element of surprise, not the horrible men who stole you.
The next day, when the guard unlocked and opened the door that kept your prisoner, you were prepared to charm and simper, but the man smiled at you in a way that made your stomach sink, and threw a dress at you.
“The captain demands your presence, you have ten minutes to ready yourself,” he said with another lingering look before turning and slamming the door shut again. The lock was loud as it was clicked back into place.
“Well that makes things a bit easier,” you said and both women laughed in shock with you before they helped you make yourself look more presentable.
As you made your way towards the captain’s office, the pirates aboard the ship stared and sneered. You blinked against the brightness of the sun as it glittered over the blue sea. There was no sight of land that you could see, nothing but depthless ocean, no option for escape but a watery grave.
Your hopes of an easy getaway were dashed, you had no idea how long you would be forced to remain on this ship until it reached land and you could enact your strategy for release.
There was also no sight of Vhagar, no dragon roar in the winds, no dashing husband with a sword in hand, no one to save you.
Your heart sunk to your stomach.
The captain grinned at you, and you held in your grimace as you followed him into the room he led you to.
There was a table in the center of the room, food laden upon it, and your stomach growled in protest.
He chuckled at the sound, “Please, eat as much as you desire.”
He sat across the table from you and you waited until he filled his plate and took a few bites, before you tore into the food before you, uncaring of being ladylike due to the feeling of starvation.
“I hear you are a princess,” the man said and you looked up at him as you used your napkin to wipe your mouth.
“Your men stole me from my wedded family,” you said.
“The Targaryens,” he said.
You nodded, unable to withhold your glare.
“They’re not my men, in case you are interested, just men who sell me goods that make me gold,” he drawled and you resisted the urge to slap him.
“I am not an item to be bartered and sold, I am the wife of Aemond Targaryen and you will release me safely or my dragon will burn you and your entire operation to the ground,” you said, softly but with passion.
He had the gall to laugh at you.
You gritted your teeth and attempted to quell your temper, but your fiery temperament was difficult to leash, it was what attracted your husband to you in the first place.
“You’re a hateful bastard,” you spat.
He laughed again, “Guilty as charged. Princess, when we reach our destination across the sea, your husband’s family will be contacted and ransom will be posted. My crew and I will get our money and you will be returned home.”
You glared, wishing your look could kill. Your hand inched up your leg, grazing the sheathed dagger hidden under your skirts that hadn’t been found and confiscated during your capture.
Pirates began screaming and then there was an earth shattering roar.
You smirked.
He pulled out his sword and pointed it at you and rested the tip against your throat.
“You will die for this,” you purred.
“Stay put,” he said as he then stood and walked past you to the door.
As he opened the door, there was the most glorious sight to behold. Vaghar cast a shadow over the ship large enough it was nearly dark as night. Aemond’s silver hair shined as he climbed down a rope from her saddle and landed on the ship, his sword out and began slaughtering.
“Targaryen,” the captain yelled as he stepped out and stood on the bannister, looking down as your husband cut down his men.
You stood and quietly slipped your dagger from its sheath as you crept behind the captain.
“Where is my wife?” Aemond bellowed.
Heat filled you in response to his presence, his rage.
The captain opened his mouth to respond when a blade pierced the back of his neck, pushed through, and broke through on the other side of his throat, before the dagger was withdrawn. Red splattered as he choked on his own blood, the only sounds of his surprise.
He turned around to look at his attacker and you gave him a feral grin.
“I told you that you and your entire ship would burn,” you said sweetly before you pushed him over the railing, ignoring the sound and sight of his crippled body on the wood as you looked up at your Aemond.
The fighting had indeed paused as all were shocked by the death of the captain.
“I am here,” you said, blood spattered and filled with relief.
Aemond released a sigh of relief and gave you a feral grin.
“Come to me,” he said as his sword clashed with another, the men regaining their wits and attempting to kill him once more.
Everything in you wanted to yield to his command, to run to him, to be in his arms, but you had one more task to complete.
“In a minute,” you called out as you took off running back towards the cell you were kept in. As you looked back, you saw the confused quizzical look he threw at you as he continued to stab and end the lives of the men who stole you from him.
You raced down the hallway, having memorized the way, and saw the guard as he unlocked and opened the door where your companions were kept.
You stabbed him in the back, and ripped your dagger out, so when he turned around in surprise, you stabbed him again in the heart.
You yanked your dagger from him as you looked at the women, and yelled, “Follow me!”
You ran back from the belly of the ship to the safety of your dragon. But as soon as you were out in the open and saw him again, you realized he was in trouble.
He was the most skilled fighter, but he was overwhelmed by numbers. You threw your dagger at a man about to stab him in the back, and it found its home in the enemy's forehead.
You then picked up a sword off a deceased body and attempted to fight, but the sword was quickly knocked from your hands.
Your foe held his sword to your throat and you huffed in frustration.
Marrion and Eliza hid behind you, and at least eight men stood between you and Aemond.
“Enough,” the man who held your life in his hands yelled.
The fighting stopped and Aemond’s gaze met yours across the ship. Fire gleamed in his eye, blood coated his hands, splattered across his clothing, his handsome face, his silver hair. He was a god of vengeance, your protector, the bearer of your heart and soul.
“Return my wife to me,” he snarled.
“We outnumber you, yield,” the man closest to him said through gritted teeth.
“I do believe you are forgetting something,” Aemond said with a smirk and Vhagar roared loud enough to rock the boat.
You huffed a laugh.
The men took a step back from your husband, shaking in their boots.
Aemond held his hand out to you, you looked back to the man who threatened you, and with a sigh he lowered his sword from your throat. You ran into Aemond’s embrace, he pulled you close with one arm even as he continued to hold his sword up against the men.
The other two women followed you, and hid behind the two of you.
“My love,” he murmured, “Climb aboard Vhagar and lead your companions to do the same. I will be there momentarily.”
You pressed a kiss to his blood smattered cheek and did as he ordered. You climbed the rope that led you to Vhagar’s saddle, and as you got settled, you assisted the others in doing the same.
Aemond continued his stand off with the men who remained. When one jumped forward, attempting to attack, he unleashed himself.
The opponents were no match for your dragon, despite their numbers, and Aemond slayed as many as he could, before grabbing onto the rope.
With words in High Valyrian dripping from his tongue, he ordered his dragon to fly, taking him higher and away from the men who attempted to take you from him.
Only moments passed, and then he yelled, “Dracarys.”
Liquid fire encompassed the pirate ship and it burned just as you predicted it would.
You watched the ship, the men on it, burn to ashes before sinking into the ocean as Aemond climbed atop Vhagar’s saddle and situated himself behind you, wrapping his arms around you, the other two women behind him.
“Let’s go home, my love,” he said in your ear, gently and reassuring.
You nodded, sinking into his embrace, and only tearing your eyes from the wreckage when it sunk beneath the watery depths.
The return to King’s Landing was quick, and trusted guards returned the women with you safely to their homes, but not before you offered them jobs in the Red Keep, which they tearfully accepted. Descriptions were given of the men that sold you to the pirates, and you knew they would be dead by nightfall. f
Then, your husband led you to the small council chambers, you walked in feeling bashful, but he strutted in, led you to sit as he stood behind you, one hand on the back of your chair the other on your shoulder.
“Aemond!” His mother exclaimed.
He ignored her and instead glared at his grandsire.
“Why was I not properly informed that my wife had been stolen,” he growled.
“You left your post,” Otto replied.
“I don’t give a shit about my post. My wife was in danger. Days went by, days that she was no longer in your protection as you had promised,” he said, his voice raised.
“Aemond, we were doing everything we could to get her back,” Alicent attempted to soothe.
“Not enough,” Aemond said through gritted teeth.
“It was a calculated decision to not inform you, the hope was that we would have her back safety before you discovered that she was ever gone-“
”You calculated wrong.” Aemond said, his voice low and dark, the promise of violence so strong that you looked back at him and placed your hand atop his own.
“Aemond, I am fine, I am safe,” you reassured.
He glanced down at you, the words seeming to smooth some of the jagged panic inside him.
“And we are so grateful that you are,” Alicent replied.
Aemond looked back up.
“We need you to return, you and Vhagar are essential-“
“Fuck that,” Aemond said as he tugged on your hand, pulling you up out of your chair and by his side as he turned to leave.
“Aemond!” Alicent protested.
“My wife will stay by my side,” Aemond announced as you both exited the room.
”My love?” You asked, breathless as he walked swiftly through the halls of the Red Keep, keeping you with him.
“I will return to the war efforts on the morrow and you will come with me, do you understand? I cannot breathe when you are not near me. I cannot breathe when you are not safely in my arms. I cannot- “
“Aemond, look at me,” you said gently as you placed your hand on the side of his face.
You had pulled him to a stop right in front of your chambers, they had gone unused since you wed him as he had immediately moved you into his own.
His breathing was ragged, panic still threatening to pull him under.
“You saved me. I am here. And I will stay by your side always, if that is what you desire,” you said softly but passionately.
His lips crashed into yours.
His grip was tight as he pulled you against the hard planes of his body.
Your heart soared as his passion threatened to consume you. The waves of his fiery passion threatened to pull you under as his tongue tangled with yours and he moved, leading you to step back until your back hit the door and he pressed you against it. His hands roved from gripping your hips, one grazing the underside of your breast, the other caressing the side of your throat.
He pulled his lips from yours long enough to rest his forehead against yours and breathe out, “Always?”
“Always,” you promised as you pulled his lips back to yours.
His hand reached the handle of the door behind you, and he guided you into the room. He spent the night proving his devotion to you, imprinting himself on and inside your body, giving you pleasure of unparalleled heights.
And the next morning, your dragon kept his promise of always, and brought you with him, holding you tight and close on Vhagar’s back as he returned to wage war against his foes.
Note
So I've just watched the finale and I'm feeling... Weird. I think part of it is because this show started with everything I like in a story (cool badass ladies, a queer romance, found family, redemption, etc etc) and ended up being... Not all that (most characters die, the romance is doomed, and I guess the redemption mostly happened but wasn't entirely satisfactory to me). Also, I'm someone who as Trauma (tm) with death so, I guess my brain's first reaction is "fuck that I just want them all happy and safe" and it takes me a while to accept when stories take these paths, however well written they might be.
Still, I thought it all went a bit fast in the last 2 eps, with parts of the show ringing just a little bit more hollow than I would have expected? I'm left feeling like the characters of Alice, Mrs Hart and Jen were treated a bit superficially (Lillia's story felt more complete). I also wished we had seen more of Agatha's past because spending centuries just conning witches then killing them is... a bit boring? (maybe we learn more about her in WandaVision, I haven't seen it). And obviously I wished we had seen more of Agatha and Rio. It's like the show couldn't decide if it was about Agatha or about Billy (partly because, I'm guessing it's setting up a 3rd show about him?), and with this short format we ended losing a bit on Agatha's part.
Anyway, curious of what you think of all that because your analysis are always super interesting, and like I said my own brain might be a bit biased towards resistance with this one. And obviously would love to read your fanfic(s) should you write any!
So, I've started and restarted a reply to this a few times, but I think what my answer boils down to is: we're meant to have multilayered responses to this finale. We're meant to sit with it. It's meant to change our experience of the show we've had to this point.
I think the best metaphor for this is the fact the revelation that Rio is Death. Bear with me, because I know this got spoiled for us way early on and we all knew it and were all just waiting for the revelation to drop - but imagine for a second that we didn't know that Rio, Agatha's ex-girlfriend and spooky fun vaguely-a-psychopath as played by the delightful Aubrey Plaza, is death. Your perception of Rio would have been turned on its head. Your perception of Agatha would have been turned on its head. Your perception of the Witches' Road and what we're even doing here with Death walking alongside us as a tourist would have been turned on its head.
Now, we all had an incredibly fun time even with the knowledge that Rio is death before we should have had it. But I think some of the power for what it meant for the story - and our perception of what was really happening - was muted.
Jen, at the beginning of 1.08, says, "She told us who she was from the very beginning."
Sit with that - because the same is true of this story.
---
It turns out that the Road is a metaphor for death. This isn't fully illustrated for us until Nicky, the author of the Ballad, walks down the road with Death's hand in his, and we go, oh. Oh.
Agatha tells us in the beginning that the Road doesn't exist, a rare instance of her giving anyone unbridled truth. And sure - the Road that our coven walked down doesn't exist. The Road that all the witches Agatha lured to the deaths believed in doesn't exist. It's a fiction. But it's significant that Agatha lured them all to the Road and killed them. They wanted to walk the Road. They died. Not "they died instead" - it's a two-fold statement. They wanted to walk the Road and they died. In a gruesome way, Agatha's been taking witches on the Witches' Road since the 1750s.
I don't think the significance of that is lost on Agatha, either, especially where we pick up at the beginning of 1.08. Lilia's dead, and everybody's reeling.
Perhaps Agatha more than anybody.
---
I also want to quickly take a look at Rio's accusation of Agatha regarding Billy.
"The bodies are really piling up." "Did you doubt me?" "Yeah, I did. I thought there'd be a trick in there somewhere. And there was! You were distracting me from him."
Because this is a revelation about Agatha's actions toward not just Rio, but any audience watching her - i.e., us the viewers. She's been distracting us! Not from who Billy is, we know that of course, but with regard to what the Road itself is. Agatha's known the Road isn't real the entire time. She's been protecting Billy from that knowledge. She's been protecting Billy from Rio. She's been protecting the coven itself from disintegrating. And, the biggest con woman move of them all, she's been distracting us - with less and less success as the show goes on - from the fact that she is not even the slightest bit in control.
---
So I definitely want to circle back to what you said about how the show started out with everything you like in a story, because oof, yeah, I felt that. I felt that hard in the finale. Coming off the impact of the incredible storytelling in 1.07, and the queer jokes and campy Wicked cosplay balancing out the sad, I think many of us spent the next week expecting some kind of emotional resolution that probably involved the remaining coven banding together in some more of that found family we've felt them becoming along the way.
Here's where things starts going wrong, right off the bat: they don't. Instead, they splinter. Not only are you aware of just how few of them are left (Jen, Billy, Agatha), but Jen and Agatha can't handle Lilia's death. Jen's distraught. The close up on Agatha running away out of the trial and back onto the Road, alone, shows her looking hunted and wild in her guilt. Everything that follows has its seeds in that moment of rending that began with Lilia's death.
From the beginning, the point has been that Agatha Harkness is a covenless witch. It's something we've seen her revel in - maybe simply because she has no choice but to own it. But the fact is that here, for the first time in centuries, she had a coven. She didn't intend to have one - she intended to kill them all in her basement and not think twice about them again. But events transpired the way they did. They became her coven. And one by one, they all died on the Road.
Rio, of course, has the words to cut right to the quick: "Your coven is shrinking," she teases Agatha cruelly. Agatha looks wild - because she's right. The worst thing is that she killed Alice - and she didn't mean to. She didn't want to. But she did, and in exactly the same way she'd intended to kill her at the beginning, the same way she's been killing witches for hundreds of years. "Your coven is shrinking," and it's Agatha's fault. It's Agatha's coven. It's Agatha's coven.
Hold on to that, too.
---
One of the things that I've been mulling over most is Agatha's character. She's so much fun in the beginning. We're all fucking charmed by her. We also don't have the full context of just how much of a serial killer she is.
So for me, at least, watching 1.08 and not only not getting found family, but getting an Agatha so far away from a "redemption" story that she only just barely is willing to not sacrifice Billy for herself, was kind of a rude awakening. Agatha's a lot more of a villain that I was prepared for. Surprise!
Agatha's so far away from "redemption", in fact, that she's only just barely starting to feel empathy for other witches. She's just starting to be affected by people who aren't #1. And that's a trauma response. And it's so, so, so deeply rooted in her that she's only just starting to be able to conceive of the idea of people who care for her. Of the possibility of being able to live in community. She's not ready for a redemption arc. There was no way that the kind of redemption arc she'd need could fit into nine episodes, because so much of it would for her be predicated on a mental shift that Agatha just hasn't arrived at yet. She's still so angry. She's still so traumatized. She's done almost none of the work. And even at the end, even with the final gesture of sacrificing herself for Billy, that's not a final act of redemption, oh Agatha's now a good person/forgiven/insert word frame of choice.
What this show did in terms of redemption for Agatha was set her up to be in a place where she might want it - where she might want to do and be better for Billy, and someday, for Nicky.
And it's significant that that point comes for Agatha in dying… and after death.
---
This show is about death. The Road is about death. Death is a character on the show.
Like, okay, you're saying. Fine. But what about my gay fun times? What about my queer romance, my found family?
And please know that I'm there with you.
I'm not hugely in touch with what the larger fandom is saying and how they're reacting because I have my little echo chamber here on tumblr and a few friends who have actual social media, but even here I get the sense that we're all kind of :/ for fairly similar reasons. What happened to the show I fell in love with?
And for me, the last few days, I think it's been important to realize that the fact that the show I fell in love with didn't suddenly become a different show. It didn't pull a bait and switch. No twists were in bad faith. Everything has been right here in the text of the show from the very beginning.
And I think it's important to see the story that Jac Schaeffer et al. were actually telling vs. our expectations of what they were telling, or worse, what we wanted them to tell. For just one example, I was convinced we were going to see Alice again - maybe Lorna Wu, too. I wasn't expecting it to be for the sole purpose of recognizing that not only is she dead, but to give Alice herself the space to say that it wasn't fair, that she wasn't ready, that she'd just broken her family's curse, that now she can really do something with her life! Because, ugh, yeah! It's not fair, for all those reasons! But that's also death. Likewise, Sharon's just dead, and worse, her death was pretty much meaningless. Lilia rediscovered herself again, and she chose her death to save everyone else - extremely meaningful. But at the end - she's just dead. We don't see her again. She's gone. She, like the others, walked the Road and away with Death.
I loved these covenless witches. I loved them finding themselves together. I loved them bonding around the campfire and discovering community. I miss them all, so so much. But they told us from the beginning how haunted by death all of them were: Alice and her mom, Lilia and her coven in Sicily, Billy and William Kaplan, Agatha and her son and her ex-lover. And of course, Death herself. Forget haunting these individuals - she came to actually join the temporary coven. Like, fuck. They told us what this show was about.
---
This show is about death, but it's more complicated than that: we'll take our cue from Rio again, who, in being Death, is also the original Green Witch. In short, this show is about Green Craft, "growth and decay in constant flow."
So yes - almost every single witch in the coven dies. Yes, it's permanent. No, the queer romance isn't resolved happily. No, Agatha doesn't have a redemption, satisfying or otherwise. And no, none of it follows what we've come to expect from found family story trajectories.
But the focus shouldn't be solely on the decay. There's a whole cycle of growth coming up after it, even now, and it's being made possible by the death and decay that we just witnessed. And most importantly, it's confirmed that this isn't the end of the story - just the end of "Agatha All Along."
---
I'll finish by actually answering your question - I've been sitting with the finale for a few days, because I also felt weird about it. And I think that's the right word: "Weird." Very spooky season-esque, first of all, but also not tipping all the way right into "bad".
The first thing to acknowledge is that no story is perfect - they were limited by nine episodes by what they had the space to show, and finales are really hard to get just right. The second is that you're allowed to not like any or all of it, especially when something happens that asks you to change your entire understanding of the story thus far, i.e. the Road isn't real, or when you have a particular trauma around death and it turns out that that's what the whole show is about in ways we hadn't fully realized. The third is that it's worth sitting with stories sometimes and seeing how they marinate and develop in your brain and your soul over time. All of these things can and should coexist.
This isn't my first go-round with a series finale that initially made me ???, so I was fortunate in that I felt like I had a cheat sheet. I've still got some marinating to do to see how this continues to change for me. But it's helped me to realize that my ??? reaction is what the story wanted me to have - that the characters are reeling right along with me. Not just Alice in shock about her death, but also Billy at the implications of his creation of the Road regarding his responsiblity for what happened on it. We're meant to feel this way… and then we're meant to reconsider the journey we've been on, the Road we've walked with all of them and the death we've died alongside them, and see it anew for what it really is.
Rhaenyra would never kill her own kin? Say it with your hand on the Bible and watch the Lord punish you for perjury
Team black stans is being almost hysterical, trying to convince us that Saint Rhaenyra would never dare to kill Alicent's children, that Otto and Alicent are the second and third coming of Satan, and they are must be blame for everything, from the birth of the Night King to the end of the Daenerys arc, and if it weren't for these two, Westeros would have already installed electricity, invented penicillin and learned to wash their asses more than once a month.
As proof, you are given quotes from a book that these fans have hardly read in its entirety, their own opinion, which, of course, is an indisputable fact and, sometimes, even "well, she would have killed some greens so what, why make such a fuss about it."
These people don't know how to work with a narrative, and it shows. Stories like Dance of the Dragons require you to dive into the personalities of both teams so you can understand the tragedy of the situation - a civil war between family members that will nearly destroy House Targaryen and Westeros.
Now imagine that you, Alyssa/Baelon Targaryen, are Alicent's fifth child. And this is a fanfic (show), not a book, so we're going to base this on the events of the adaptation.
Your father doesn't care about you, and you don't understand why. Did you do something wrong? Why does your father love your half-sister and her children, but not you and your siblings? Why doesn't he protect you from your nephews' bullying?
You don't get a dragon egg because they are few and far between, and Rhaenyra has another child who needs one more. You get the egg that comes later, or you ride a full-grown dragon.
Your half-sister Rhaenyra HATES you. She shows no shame in showing her disdain, barely tolerates your existence, and never punishes her children for bullying you. She won't talk to you, won't play with you, and even seems to hate your name.
You hear rumors that your nephews are bastards. You know that having bastards is wrong and against the Faith, and you don't understand why Rhaenyra is never punished for her bad deeds. You saw Aemond being scolded for standing up to our nephews, why is no one scolding Rhaenyra?
At Laena's funeral, your brother Aemond becomes a Vhagar rider, and Luke cuts out his eye for it. When the argument happens, you are afraid, scared, and crying, because father is angry at Aemond, and instead of comforting and protecting him, he demands something from him. Rhaenyra demands that Aemond be tortured, and no one protects your brother from her. Your father yells at Aegon because Aemond said that Aegon is the one who lied about your nephews being legitimate Velaryons. You don't understand how words can be as bad as your brother's injury. No one ever scolded or punished Rhaenyra for anything, so what if her children were called a bad word? Your father declares that there will be no punishment for your brother's injury, as if a lost eye is like a scratched knee and nothing bad happened. Your mother is angry at Rhaenyra and tries to hurt Luke, and suddenly she is the bad one and it's all her fault, and everyone has forgotten that Rhaenyra wanted to torture Aegon, who was hurt, as if it doesn't matter.
You are scared to get your dragon. What if Rhaena decides that this dragon was meant to be hers and you are a thief too, just like she accused Aemond? Will they cut out your eye too?
Laenor dies, and you hear that Rhaenyra has married Daemon, ignoring the mourning period. You remember this man - he laughed at Laena's funeral and frightened your mother with his presence. You have heard terrible things about him, and you are afraid to be near him - but thank the gods he does not come to the Red Keep, so you sleep peacefully. You are afraid to think about how exactly Laenor died, and whether Rhaenyra and Daemon were involved.
When your half-sister finally appears at the Red Keep, her first act is to claim Driftmark for her bastard son. When Vaemond Velaryon, your distant relative, calls her a whore and her children bastards, Daemon cuts off his head, and none of the Blacks look sad, even though he was a close relative to Rhaenys, Baela, and Rhaenyra's three eldest sons (presumably).
And that's just part of the shit that goes on in your life. If it were possible, you'd demand a refund.
If someone told you that Rhaenyra wouldn't kill you for the sake of her peaceful reign, would you believe them?
PS. not a native speaker and it shows, so what?
